Homemade Corndogs

One of the benefits of watching food channels with the kids (like 24Kitchen or Food Network) is that if they’ll see any delicious food, they’ll immediately ask :”Mom, do you know how to do that? Can you cook that for us?”

The same thing happened when they sow Corndogs. They kept asking so frequently that I had no other choice than start cooking corndogs.

I am pretty sure that some of you are thinking right now that these are not healthy since they’re deep fried. I do my best to feed them healthy and actually they eat everything, all kind of veggies, fruits, soups, fish or meat, but sometimes it does not harm to treat the kids with these kind of fast food snacks. The most important thing is that fat food meals should not become a lifestyle.

Serving 8 corndogs

Cooking time: 20 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup polenta flour
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour+1 tbsp. to coat the sausages
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 8 mini hot dog sausages
  • salt
  • sunflower seed oil for deep frying
  1. Mix the dry ingredients (flours, salt and baking powder)  in a small bowl. Add the egg and stir with a fork. Add the milk and mix until the batter is smooth.
  2. Pour the batter in a high glass ( this will make dipping and coating the sausages pretty easy)
  3. In the meantime heat the oil in a deep saucepan.
  4. Sprinkle the hot dogs with flour and roll to evenly coat them. Insert a skewer lengthwise to each of the hot dogs.
  5. Dip each hot dog in the batter taking care to drain the excess batter. Fry them in very hot oil taking care to fry on both sides.
  6. Put the corndogs in a plate fitted with paper to drain the excess oil.
